HAPPY NEW YEAR!
FEBRUARY MEETINGS
There will be a CAC meeting and Commander's Call on February 6
at 7:30 p.m. All CAC reps please come and say goodbye to
C/Lt. Thomas Gockel at his final meeting before joining the Air Force and
congratulate Sgt. Jaxon Halebian as he takes over Group CAC Chair.
UPCOMING EVENTS
SEARCH AND RESCUE EXERCISE
Group 1 will be hosting a SAREX at Whiteman Airport 16-18 Feb.
Funding has been approved for approx. 6 aircraft. Reservations for aircraft
will
be taken on a first come, first served basis. Aircraft reservations MUST
include the names of the aircrew. The activity will consist of
the aircraft
finding target teams in their assigned grid, and directing a ground team to the
target team. Target teams do not need to be ground team rated,
so you pilots that don't feel like flying this one can go and play target.
Qualified ground team people are required for the search teams.
Base personnel are also needed, particularly flight line and communications.
A cost of $6 is requested from senior members attending,
cadets participate for no fee. (We're going to try to wok lunch in this deal,
at least for the ground and target teams. No guarantees past that). The MC
for this SAREX is Ltc. Joe Orchard. Please send any reservations,

FIRST AID/CPR
Deadline is fast approaching for all checks and forms, which are
due by 1 February if you plan to attend.
Group 1 will be putting on a First Aid and CPR class 24-25
February 2001 at 0800 hrs. (sharp) through 1700 hrs.
(Local). You must attend
both days inorder to receive your cards. The location will be for the class
will be at Wing Hq. 15900 Victory Blvd., Van Nuys, CA
91406-6499.
Transportation for Cadets will be free of charge and leave from Squadrons 107 (Torrance) and 63 (Burbank & Whiteman Airport).
The cost of the course material is $12.00. You are
requested to bring your lunch both days. Form 17's or 31's will be required and will be checked
on the first day of the class. Anyone without the
proper form will not be allowed into the class. Please send all checks and forms to:

ES PART II
Emergency Services Part 2 is being offered Thursday February 8th
at Torrance Airport, Squadron 129 headquarters, located next to the control tower.
Time is 1830 to 2130. Uniforms are optional. Cost is $3.00.
Registration is required as there is seating for only 15 students. To register call
Ltc. Patricia Faunt 310-374-1932. Deadline for registration is Monday Feb
5th. ES Part 2 is required for all air crews (except transport mission pilot).
Students should bring a copy of CAPR 55-1 and be familiar with the contents.
SCANNER CLASS
There will be a Scanner Class Saturday February 10th at Torrance
Airport, Squadron 129 headquarters located next to the control tower. Time is 0900
to approximately 1500. Cost is $5.00. Uniforms are
optional. Registration is required as there is seating for only 15 students.

5th. This class completes the Scanner Ground Training Requirement.
CHINESE NEW YEARS PARADE
Seniors and cadets are needed to assist with parade activities
on Saturday, February 10. Contact Capt. John Savage at 818-980-1605.
ROP TEACHING OPPORTUNITY
Culver City High School is currently recruiting for a part-time
aviation teacher who has 5 years on the job experience or a Bachelor's Degree. A
Vocational
Eduction Credential is mandatory but they are willing to help an otherwise
qualified candidate through the process. The Regional Occupations Programs
of Los Angeles County Office of Education offers a competitive salary for part time
teaching between $25 - $30 per hour. This position is five hours a week

CADET PROGRAM CONFERENCE (CPC)
CPC will be held at March Air Reserve Base February 17-19. Wing Color Guard
Competition will be held in conjunction with the conference.
Clover Field Composite Squadron 51 will represent Group 1. Encampment staff
selections will be held and the annual awards banquet and military ball.
CADET NON COMMISSIONED OFFICERS SCHOOL (NCOS)
March 23-25, 2001at Los Alamitos, CA. The deadline for applications is
February 28, 2001.
NATIONAL CADET SPECIAL ACTIVITIES (NCSA)
Interviews for NCSA take place January 27 at Los Alamitos Group 7
Headquarters.
JPL OPEN HOUSE
May 19-20 JPL will hold their annual Open House. Many squadrons are planning to
attend. It's a great opportunity to tour a very interesting facility
and hear all about their programs.
VAN NUYS AIR EXPO
Mark your squadron calendars and reserve the dates 23-24 June for the Van Nuys Air
Expo. Details will be discussed at the Commander's Call.
PACIFIC REGION RECRUITING DRIVE
CAWG has 2081 Seniors and 1479 Cadets, down slightly from 1999
numbers. Col. Groshong has pledged a $1000.00 prize each to the squadron
with the most senior and cadet growth within a Wing. National is developing new
recruiting posters.
